You will need a slicer (Cura, Slic3r,Simplify3d etc…). You open an STL file (3d object), set the settings and export the result to a gcode file (basically x y z coordinates and how much to push the filament). This file is usually saved on an SD card that you put in the 3d printer. Then you select that file and print.
